St Leonards Church, Holwell, Grade II*

A small rural parish Church

As Quinquennial inspecting Architect we were commissioned with a re-ordering scheme for this small rural parish Church. Unfortunately during the initial feasibility study for the PCC the lead roof was stolen in its entirety, following meetings and discussions with the Local Authority, discussing with local residents through community consultation, Diocesan Advisory Committee and other interested parties we developed the proposal to reinstate the roof in an alternative material to avoid any further metal theft from this Church.

Working closely with suppliers and advisers we developed this scheme and have assisted the Church in gaining the attention of the wider community following the roof theft.  The re-ordering scheme is now addressing the lack of community space for the village and is looking to attract this use to help sustain and integrate this building back into the village, this will include the addition of a toilet and servery space and removal of pews to create a flexible open plan space whilst maintain the sanctuary area of the Church for worship.
